Example Four Band Resistor
Figuring out resistor codes can be annoying while you work on electronics. You can use the calculator above to figure out the values for a 4 to 6 band resistor. The value of the resistor will be displayed above after you click submit. The resistance in ohms and the tolerance are always returned. The temperature coefficient will display when selecting a 6 band resistor.
A common through-hole resistor can have from 4 to 6 colored bands. Five band resistors are more precise than a four band in their value because of a third digit. A six band resistor is the same precision as a five band, but contains a temperature coefficient band.
